Thousands of undocumented people loose their lives in Nigeria from vehicle crash caused by human factors, such as bad roads, drunk-driving, overloading, poor vehicle maintenance, and excessive speeding. While the government and many international donor agency's spend vast amounts of money on various diseases, they spend little or no money on car accidents which claim more lives yearly than any of the diseases such as HIV AIDS, TB etc.
Nigeria is a highly religious country and most people tend to put down all their misfortunes as the handiwork of the Devil.
Devil's Dexterity is a body of work, which is taking on a more conceptual framework . The starting point is the remnants of accidents that are constantly seen on the Nigerian roads and roadside, and to explore the vulnerability of life and the tragic beauty of the landscape. I travelled part of the time with a model who I dressed up to look like a figurative Devil and lurk as the Devil is supposed to do around the accident scenes, with the vehicle and human remnants left abandoned by the local government on the roadside. These officials do not live up to their responsibility, and remove the carcasses and wrecks often for years and years. I do not mean to offend, but rather see these images as thought provoking and to inspire something deep within the mind of the viewer.
